Data cleansing, is also known as data scrubbing. It is the process of correcting the errors from database. During the cleansing, all records are examined for reliability and accuracy – and then it is corrected or deleted. Method used for data cleansing are flexible and can be used on single sets of data or multiple records that work together and/or need to be merged. The most naive type of data cleansing engages one person for proofreading another one for records and scanning for inaccuracies or mistakes. Trouble-free typing errors, spelling mistakes are fixed and corrected. In addition, data cleansing techniques expose and eliminate records that are unrecoverable. This is done to free up space and ensure that all operations within given data sets are running smoothly. More complicated data cleansing techniques are effectively performed by specially designed computer programs. The business that depends on accurate data can be gained greatly from the services of a data scrubbing organization. The process of Data Cleansing: • Data audit: The data is reviewed with the use of algebraic methods to detect glitch and inconsistency..
• Work flow specification: The detection and removal of difference is performed by a sequence of operations on the data known as the work flow.
• Work flow execution: In this stage, the work flow is executed after its specification is complete and its correctness is verified. The implementation of the work flow should be efficient even on large sets of data which inevitably poses a trade-off because the execution of a data cleansing operation can be computationally expensive.
• Post-Processing and Controlling: After executing the cleansing work flow, the results are inspected to verify correctness. Data that was not corrected during implementation of the work flow are now manually approved if possible.
