Data cleansing

Data cleansing or data scrubbing is the process of finding and correcting  the correct and accurate data from a set of records or database .The  process of data cleansing includes data auditing, workflow specification, workflow execution, post-processing and controlling.

The compilation of a huge database will have the same record entered more than once thereby the same information being repeated and creating duplicates. Multiple entries of these data create duplicates.  With the help of an error correction technique, an error is corrected thereby removing inaccurate and invalid entries. Every block of data received is checked and if the check fails the data is retransmitted repeatedly for cleansing, until the data has no or less errors.

For instance, the set of records in a banking database will contain contact numbers, address and other information. The most common records that would change in a database would be phone numbers and address. Therefore, with the aid of data cleansing process the changes can be set right.

• The most challenging problem within data cleansing remains the quality of data being correct, or exact and free from error or duplicates.
• There are ways to keep error correction and loss of information to a minimum through careful planning as data cleansing needs to be utilized cost effectively and at quick turnaround time.
• Data cleansing is a basic conceptual structure used to delete or check for accurate and correct data within single or multiple set of records.
The information from an original database will contain duplicates, missing and incomplete records. With the help of data cleansing technique the improper data can be removed and formatted into a useful data.
